KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) — Every time you get a driver’s license or register a vehicle, you give the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles your personal information. But did you know that your personal data is being sold?

We all know the feeling: it’s early in the morning, you’re tired, and you’re at the DMV.

“I had to be up at 5:30 this morning to get on the 6 am waiting list, and then there was still a two-and-a-half-hour wait,” said Mariah Bruce, who lives in Overland Park.

It’s an unavoidable task with an unexpected exposure. In Kansas and Missouri, the state can sell the data you give to the Department of Motor Vehicles. It goes to private companies.
