OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - On this day in 1936, television personality Dick Cavett was born in Nebraska.

After graduating from Lincoln High School and Yale’s School of Drama, Cavett got his big break writing material for Jack Paar on “The Tonight Show.”

He would write jokes for Johnny Carson and Groucho Marx before his debut in 1968 on his very own talk show. Cavett was also known for his unique interview style with newsmakers of the time.

Cavett has received at least 10 Emmy nominations over the years, and he has won three times.
