John Swinney has declared it would be "lovely" if Steve Clarke received a knighthood after guiding Scotland to their first World Cup finals since 1998. ‌

The First Minister told an audience in London today he would also consider calls for a bank holiday on the day of the Tartan Army's first game at the tournament in North America next summer. ‌

Swinney spoke out after a motion was lodged at the Scottish Parliament by Labour MSP Michael Marra which said Clarke deserved the gong to "reflect the joy he has given to us all". ‌
