BEAUMONT, Texas — Surrounded by family and community members, longtime Beaumont resident Dorothy Daniels celebrated her 100th birthday Thursday at her home on Goliad Street, marking a century of life that has witnessed some of the city’s most defining moments.
Daniels, who has lived in the same home since 1955, was born in Beaumont on Nov. 13, 1925. Her family hosted a birthday celebration, and Beaumont Mayor Roy West proclaimed the day as “Dorothy Daniels Day.”
Over the last century, Daniels has seen Beaumont through good times and bad. She recalls experiencing race riots, living through World War II, and watching the community change across generations.
