A breakout music star born in New York City is considered a suspect after a teen girl's body was found in his Tesla, according to reports.

A source told ABC7 in Los Angeles that singer d4vd is a suspect in the death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas-Hernandez. The investigation remains open, and no one has been arrested.

Rivas-Hernandez was reported missing from Lake Elsinore, California, in early 2024. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said she had run away several times and last made contact at the end of May.

Police said Rivas-Hernandez's body was discovered in the 2023 Tesla Model Y's front trunk at a Hollywood tow yard on Monday, Sept. 8. Officers were called to check a foul odor coming from an impounded Tesla that had been towed two days earlier.

Rivas-Hernandez's remains were decomposing, dismembered, and placed inside a bag. The Tesla is registered to d4vd, a 20-year-old whose real name is David Anthony Burke.

The singer was on tour when the body was found and had a Los Angeles stop scheduled for Friday, Sept. 20. The remaining dates were cancelled before that appearance as the investigation intensified.

d4vd has more than 33 million monthly listeners on Spotify and gained a huge following on TikTok with songs like "Here With Me" and "Romantic Homicide." While spokespeople for d4vd have claimed that he's assisting with the investigation, sources told ABC7 that he isn't and "never has" cooperated.

The exact cause of Rivas-Hernandez's death remains undetermined because her remains were severely decomposed. Investigators believe the killing happened earlier in 2025, with laboratory tests and toxicology reports expected to help determine how she died.

In mid-September, officers collected evidence, including a computer, while executing a search warrant at a Hollywood Hills home where d4vd had been staying. The home's lease had been broken early and Burke had moved out, the Los Angeles Times reported.

ABC7 also learned that Burke transferred ownership of his Cypress, Texas, home to his mother on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Until test results are complete, the case remains a death investigation rather than a homicide investigation.
