LONG LAKE, Minn. — Less than a month after achieving his dream of signing a one-day contract with the Minnesota Wild, 10-year-old Weston died peacefully while watching a hockey game Tuesday night.
Weston, a hockey fanatic from Long Lake, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in early January. According to his GoFundMe site, he underwent intense chemotherapy and immunotherapy for 10 days, then spent a month in the hospital to allow his immune system to recover.
The child's mom, Danielle Paszkiewicz, posted on Weston's CaringBridge site late Tuesday, announcing that Weston woke up with little strength and confusion. His condition slipped during the day, and the boy's hospice nurse took steps to make him comfortable.
