One person has died following a shooting that happened Tuesday on Brahan Avenue in Huntsville, according to Madison County Coroner Tyler Berryhill.

In a Wednesday update, Berryhill says 34-year-old Demetrius Paige was pronounced dead at the hospital.

This comes after officers were called to the 2200 block of Brahan Avenue about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a shooting in progress.

When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as Paige, suffering from a gunshot wound. Huntsville Police say he was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Despite life-saving efforts, Paige succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Huntsville Police's Major Crimes Unit responded to lead the investigation.
