A man from Oxford, Alabama, is charged with capital murder after police say he shot and killed two people in Fort Payne.

According to newly filed court documents, 27-year-old Jacob Eugene Mitchum is accused of intentionally causing the death of the victims about 5:50 p.m. Sunday. Fort Payne Police say the shooting happened in the 1300 block of Alabama Avenue NW.

Fort Payne police are investigating the incident, according to a Sunday post on the police department's Facebook page.

Police say the shooter was taken into custody in another jurisdiction the same day as the incident.
