Dare County Sheriff warns of new phone scam

In a warning posted on its Facebook post on Monday Nov. 17, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office reports on a new scam that is circulating.

Here are the details.

A new scam is hitting the phone. Scammers are calling as a Bail Bondsman or other entity. The scammer calls with information obtained most like from Odyssey, a public information forum. The scammer calls on behalf of an inmate, telling the caller that they can get the inmate out with an ankle monitoring system. Most times they are using Zelle to move money around.
