If beach houses could talk—four generations of memories in Corolla

The house at 1007 Lighthouse was built in the 70’s.

Two miles from the northernmost part of Corolla sit rows of large, pastel-colored houses making up the Whalehead community.

Over several decades, the neighborhood has grown to accommodate hundreds of large, multi-family beach houses that have been built, re-built, rented and renovated as residents and visitors move in and out of the area known for its natural beauty and remoteness.

Tucked in between these modern, chic “Mega-Mansions” sits a house that’s different from the rest. Recognizable by its cedar shake siding and smaller frame, the house at 1007 Lighthouse Dr., is one of the first built in the neighborhood.
