A worker died after being exposed Tuesday morning to hydrofluoric acid at the Koura refrigerant plant in St. Gabriel, state regulators confirmed.
Koura is the former Mexichem Fluor plant in eastern Iberville Parish, which was renamed along with its parent company in a 2019 rebranding effort.
Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality officials confirmed the death but referred questions about details to Louisiana State Police, which investigated the incident.
WBRZ-TV reported that a second worker was also burned by exposure to the dangerous gas and that the first worker died after both had been taken to an area hospital.
Neither Troopers nor Koura officials immediately responded to requests for comment Wednesday afternoon.
