ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - Prosecutors are investigating an interim dean’s hiring at Rock Island High School.
Rock Island County State’s Attorney Dora Villarreal confirmed her office is investigating a possible conflict of interest by a school board member.
The issue arises from board member Tracy Pugh voting to hire his wife, Yolanda Grandberry-Pugh , as interim dean and to approve a settlement involving her.
According to Illinois code, if you’re a public official, you can’t have any financial stake — directly or through someone else — in a deal you might help approve or vote on.
At the Oct. 28 board meeting, Granberry-Pugh was hired as interim dean at the high school by a 4-3 vote, with her husband voting yes. She will be paid $109,117, according to board documents.
