A high surf advisory is in effect for the north and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai until Thursday afternoon as breezy to locally windy tradewinds push showers and heavy rainfall over the islands, along with a wintry mix on Hawaii island summits.
The hazardous conditions include strong breaking waves and powerful currents that will make swimming dangerous. Ocean safety officials strongly urge the public to heed all warnings — stating “When in doubt, don’t go out.”
Surf along the north-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau is expected to be the highest, reaching 14 to 18 feet. North-facing shores on Oahu and Molokai should anticipate surf between 10 to 15 feet.
