Panic has gripped a village in UP's Gorakhpur after the death of a rabies-infected cow, whose raw milk was reportedly used to prepare panchamrit during a religious ceremony. Around 200 villagers consumed the panchamrit , prompting health authorities to advise all of them to receive anti-rabies vaccinations immediately.
The cow, which recently died of rabies, had been bitten by a rabid street dog about three months ago.
Reports suggest that more than 170 villagers have so far received the first dose of the rabies post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) vaccine.
This incident follows reports of a woman in Greater Noida who died in March, allegedly from rabies after consuming milk from an infected cow. The reports, however, did not clarify whether the milk consumed by the woman was pasteur
