FERGUS FALLS, Minn. — The Humane Society of Otter Tail County is feeling the squeeze. Staff, volunteers and the animals they care for have been operating in a temporary building since May while their old facility is being renovated.
The interim space is about half the size of their former location, and with about 60 cats in care, staff have had to get creative to accommodate everyone. Dog adoptions have been slower, adding pressure since the temporary space only has eight kennels compared with 24 in the previous building.
“We have cats in every corner as you can see,” said Chris Cannon, executive director of the Humane Society of OTC. “Going from 24 dog kennels to eight, you really do have to rely on the community to help manage intake as well.”
The expansion project recently hit a mile
