HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The end of the high school football season is nearing.

This weekend, the Open Division begins their playoffs.

It’s been awhile since Kamehameha Kapalama has played this deep into the season.

For the first time since 2009, the Warriors are in the mix for a championship.

“Understanding the history of the program is important,” head coach Kaeo Drummondo told Hawaii News Now. “Each journey is different, you know, this journey for this team is its own.”

Kamehameha took a unique path to this point and also got a little help along the way.
