Kellie Sloane is only in her first term as the Member for Vaucluse and she is already slated to become the NSW Liberal opposition leader.

The shadow minister was endorsed by Mark Speakman during a press conference announcing his resignation on Thursday afternoon.

Following days of speculation, Ms Sloane had been resisting pressure from her colleagues to directly challenge Mr Speakman.

In the hours before his resignation he even declared he would need to be "blasted out" of the role.
