LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As cleanup continues around the areas affected by the deadly Nov. 4 UPS plane crash and fire, the Metropolitan Sewer District reported making strides toward removing much of what it called "oily liquids" and runoff from waterways.
The map below shows where MSD has three setups across four-and-a-half miles. It has already removed more than 900,000 gallons of contaminants.
“MSD’s role now is to oversee some parts of the cleanup, especially as it deals with waterways,” said Wes Sydnor, chief of government and public affairs with MSD.
MSD and contractors with UPS have been using orange booms and yellow skimmers to get the job done. The orange boom essentially catches any runoff while the yellow skimmer separates the oil from the water.
