In many ways, hate has impacted Yuval Donio-Gideon his entire life. When his parents were children, they fled Europe because of hate. His grandfather and father left pre-war Germany for what was then Palestine as Nazi-fueled hatred transformed the country.

The Holocaust orphaned his mother, who grew up in eastern Poland, which is present day Western Ukraine. After the war, the precursors of the Israeli government conveyed her to what became Israel. Years later, she and his father met, married and raised Donio-Gideon.

The son of European immigrants served six years in Israel’s military. He earned degrees in psychology and political science from the University of Haifa and joined Israel’s diplomatic service in 2006. Today, he is Consul for Public Diplomacy at the Consulate General of Israe
