ANN ARBOR, MI — Ann Arbor is stepping in to purchase a downtown condo after a city investigation found the owner not in compliance with an affordable housing covenant.
City Council voted unanimously Monday night, Nov. 17, to use up to $150,000 of the city’s cash reserves to purchase the 805-square-foot condo at 105 Ashley Mews, with plans to flip it to an income-eligible buyer.
The city attorney’s office investigated and found the affordable housing unit was no longer being used as a primary residence as required and the owner likely was living in Maryland.
