MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The city of Milwaukee will have 500,000 lights on display around the city-- from streets to parks-- starting tonight with the flip of a switch.

"Pere Marquette, Cathedral Square, Zeidler Union Square as well as Red Arrow Park and turning on our magical chandeliers over Wisconsin Avenue that stretches 18 blocks," said Matt Dorner, CEO of Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21.

The kickoff, Milwaukee's Holiday Lights Festival, will take place at Pere Marquette starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20. It's free and open to the public with a firework show, milk and cookies and a visit from Santa.

You'll also be able to see live performances from The Milwaukee Rep's a Christmas Carol, Cirque de Soleil's Twas the Night and much more local entertainment.
