MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison firefighters responded to a fire alarm early Thursday morning after a resident used their oven to heat their apartment.
Crews responded to the third floor of an apartment complex on the 700 block of Rethke Avenue.
When they got there, the resident said they had turned on the oven because they were cold and fell asleep.
Firefighters ventilated the apartment, disconnected the oven and turned off the breaker.
Upon further investigation, they found that the oven's interior window was broken and unsafe to use.
Using a stove or oven, whether electric or gas, or any other way of heating the home that is not meant for that purpose is dangerous and could result in fatal consequences.
