WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Walla Walla Police Chief Buttice and the Walla Walla City Council honored Francisco Chavez at the November 19 city council meeting for his “extraordinary bravery.”
The council and police chief recognized Chavez for protecting the victim of a carjacking attempt on October 21, 2025.
During the attack, a man threatened a woman with a knife, demanding her keys. Chavez saw the situation and put himself between the woman and the attacker to prevent him from getting closer to her.
When the suspect tried to steal the woman’s car, Chavez physically stopped him until the Walla Walla Police arrived, according to a press release about the incident.
“ His actions reflect the highest values of courage, civic duty, and compassion,” the City Council wrote in its Letter
