The mother of the murdered black teenager Stephen Lawrence has told the Undercover policing inquiry that she’s ‘profoundly troubled’ that the Metropolitan Police may have spied on her family’s long campaign for justice.
Baroness Doreen Lawrence said she believes the force viewed them ‘through a lens of suspicion’ that was not only disrespectful but also dehumanizing.
The Met has apologised unreservedly, and says it has “fully accepted” that there were major failures in how the relevant team was managed.
Simon Israel reports from the inquiry – and we should warn you there is some offensive language.
