A man convicted earlier this year of shooting a Montreal police officer has asked for a delay in the sentencing stage of his case.
On Thursday, defence lawyer Sean Cameron asked Quebec Court Judge Bruno Ménard to merely set a future date in the case of Maurice Heptbourne, 35, a man who fired shots toward two Montreal police officers, injuring one, three years ago.
Cameron informed the judge he is considering having an expert testify about an evaluation Heptbourne underwent at the Philippe-Pinel Institute of forensic psychiatry.
“We need more time to complete my side of my defence,” Heptbourne told the court when Ménard asked him if he was okay with the delay.
The judge agreed to schedule a formality hearing in mid-January for an update.
