The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has added a new four-legged member to its ranks.

Ace, a dual-purpose K-9 trained in narcotics detection and patrol operations, completed basic training and began duty this week with his handler, Deputy Nathan Rankin. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ace is prepared to assist with investigations, enforcement and community safety efforts throughout the county.

The agency’s K-9 program is supported through a grant from the Kansas Attorney General’s Office, a donation from an anonymous community member and in-kind contributions from several local businesses, including Bluestem Farm and Ranch, Hills Pet Food, Tractor Supply Co. and Midwest Concrete.
