TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) - The Florida House Select Committee on Property Tax advanced seven proposed constitutional amendments Thursday that would significantly cut property taxes for homeowners, setting up voter decisions during next year’s elections.
The committee approved eight different property tax cuts on homesteaded property along party lines, despite testimony from local government officials across the state warning of potential service cuts.
Local officials from cities and counties of various sizes testified against the proposals, arguing the cuts could force them to reduce essential services or shift tax burdens to other groups.
