GRAND FORKS — The former Grand Forks County jail administrator is taking legal action against the county, two commissioners and the sheriff for what he alleges was an unjust termination.

Bret Burkholder alleges his termination earlier this year from the Grand Forks County Correctional Center was motivated in part by age discrimination, according to a release issued by River Valley Law Thursday, Nov. 20.

Burkholder also alleges that his termination was in violation of North Dakota Century Code, which prohibits retaliation against an employee who reports a suspected violation of law, ordinance, regulation or rule to an employer, government body or law enforcement official.
