WALKER, Minn. — Authorities have identified the man killed on Nov. 16 during a use-of-force incident in Turtle Lake Township in Cass County.
James Weyaus, 37, of Onigum, Minnesota, died in the incident, according to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Cass County Sheriff's deputies who used force during the incident were identified as Kaleb Cherne and David Donner, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Both deputies fired department-issued firearms in the incident. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has placed both deputies on critical incident leave.
Cherne has three years of law enforcement experience; Donner has six years of experience.
