BRUNSWICK, Maine — Traffic is moving across the new bridge connecting Brunswick and Topsham, a key milestone in the yearslong effort to replace the aging Frank J. Wood Bridge , according to the Town of Brunswick.
Town officials said cars were traveling across on Thursday while crews continue work ahead of a full opening expected near the end of the year. The bridge is not yet fully open, but town officials described the activity as a sign of steady progress.
The project follows a lengthy legal fight over whether the 90-year-old Frank J. Wood Bridge should be restored or replaced. The Maine Department of Transportation pushed for replacement, citing extensive deterioration and restricting commercial vehicles in recent years for safety reasons.
