COLUMBUS — After nearly two years of debate, state lawmakers have finalized legislation banning most intoxicating hemp products from retail store shelves.
Late Wednesday night, the Conference Committee on Senate Bill 56 approved the final version of the bill, sending it to both the Ohio House and Ohio Senate for consideration. In addition to addressing intoxicating hemp, the legislation also makes various changes to the legal marijuana industry that voters approved in November, 2023.
The Ohio House voted 52-34 early Thursday morning to approve the S.B. 56 conference report, with mostly Democrats voting against it. The Senate adjourned before the beginning of the conference committee, but the chamber is expected to vote on the measure soon.
