Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein and Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser sent a letter to Gov. Jared Polis on Thursday with a clear message: Tina Peters should not be transferred to a different facility or pardoned under any circumstances.

The letter was in response to President Donald Trump's calls for the former Mesa County clerk to be released. On Nov. 12, Federal Bureau of Prisons officials sent a letter to Colorado's Department of Corrections asking for Peters to be transferred from state to federal custody, which would possibly give the Trump administration a method for freeing her.
