Democratic U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Luján lives on easy street, a figurative place in Donald Trump's chaotic Washington.
National politics usually is a rough, ugly business. Luján doesn't have to slip a punch or spend so much as a minute digging up dirt on his opponent. Not a single Republican has stepped up to challenge him as he seeks a second term in next year's election.
This should be a shocker based on Republicans' bluster about Trump "only" losing New Mexico last year by 6 percentage points, or 55,000 votes. They said Trump had inspired his charges . Party regulars were fired with enthusiasm. The blue tide was turning purple.
If any of that was true, someone plugged the faucet in a flash.
