City announces nine additional downtown office conversion projects

The City of Calgary is ramping up efforts to convert six million square feet of vacant downtown office space into new residential and commercial uses, officials said Thursday.

At a news conference in the Beltline, Mayor Jeromy Farkas outlined nine new office-to-residential conversion projects that will bring nearly 1,000 more homes to the core and build on the “momentum” he said the downtown development incentive program has enjoyed this past year.

The nine projects will redevelop 947,000 square feet of former office space into 972 housing units, as well as a hostel along 5th Avenue S.E.
