CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Charleston County leaders are considering nearly $40,000 in funds to preserve Lowcountry historical communities.
The county’s Settlement Communities Grant program prevents historical communities and sites from falling into disrepair.
County dollars from the American Rescue Plan Act fund the program’s projects to help serve settlement communities with necessary resources.
Each community is looking at a grant of $4,500 towards beautification initiatives that help with visibility, resilience and sustainability. Projects range from agriculture improvements to cemetery and monument cleanups.
Finance committee leaders are considering these projects for the following organizations.
