LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Conway city council has passed an ordinance establishing an entertainment district in The Village at Hendrix at its Nov. 11 meeting.
Officials with Hendrix College stated that the ordinance takes effect 30 days after the meeting, allowing patrons of restaurants that sell alcoholic beverages to carry those drinks within the district.
In 2019, the Arkansas legislature passed Act 812. This allows cities to create entertainment districts through local ordinance and enables customers to take alcohol from bars to nearby restaurants or clubs within the district.
The city of Conway passed its first ordinance in December 2024, establishing an entertainment district during approved special events within limited downtown boundaries.
