Thanksgiving, a holiday focused on family and food, is often a busy day for Allegheny County fire officials due to the increased risk of cooking-related incidents. They demonstrated the dangers of cooking a Thanksgiving turkey when not properly prepared.

"When it comes to turkey fryers that boil over, that hot oil hits the flame of the burner and that's where the real danger comes. That can happen two ways: one, too much oil in the pan, and two, the turkey is not fully thawed," said Steve Imbarlina, assistant chief of Allegheny County Emergency Services.
