COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) -Students at Covenant Classic Christian School spent Thursday packing more than 5,000 meals to donate to Harvest Hope Food Bank ahead of Thanksgiving.
The effort comes as Harvest Hope reported food supplies running thin during the recent government shutdown.
“It’s really encouraging for me to see how we can help people even if we don’t see them,” said Mercy Russell, a sixth grader at the school.
The school spent about $3,000 on supplies for the meals, using money from its annual contribution fund. In previous years, the meals were sent overseas, but this year the school decided to focus on feeding families in its own community.
