A San Joaquin County grand jury has indicted Wesley Brownlee, the man accused of being the Stockton serial killer, after nearly three years of hearings and delays. Prosecutors presented six weeks of evidence before securing the indictment, which includes six murder charges and one attempted murder count. One previously listed murder—the 2021 Oakland killing of Mervin Harmon—was not included, a decision the district attorney called tactical. Brownlee’s mental competency remains under review, continuing to slow the case. Prosecutors hope the indictment will move the case toward trial phases in 2026. Brownlee is due back in court January 26.
