Kelowna’s dog pound needs a $1 million freshen-up, local politicians heard Thursday.

A recommendation to “refurbish and expand” the existing facility at 890 Weddell Place in the downtown north end was presented to regional district directors.

A review of dog control operations describes the pound as “aging” and with “limited space and amenities”. Among other things, the refurbishment would add a second floor.

The pound is operated by the regional district through a lease with the City of Kelowna. It expires in 2029, and an extension that incorporates the proposed expansion will be the subject of further consideration.
