FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Leaders with the Indiana Board of Animal Health and Humane Fort Wayne say the holiday season brings about an increase in pet scams.
The most common scam involves false listings of pets for sale on the internet, in places like Facebook or websites that may appear to be legitimate.
“The best thing you can possibly do is do your research, do your homework. Ask friends, ask relatives, ask your veterinarian for recommendations on a good breeder, or a shelter, or a supplier where you’re gonna buy a pet,” said Denise Derrer Spears, Communications Director with the BOAH .
Locally, Humane Fort Wayne says they’ve been getting reports from customers saying scammers are making phone calls impersonating their staff.
