Gov. Phil Murphy on Thursday called on New Jersey’s leaders to stay rooted in bipartisanship as his successor prepares to tackle a looming state budget challenge and a potential health care crisis.
Murphy, a two-term Democrat, delivered his final address to the New Jersey League of Municipalities at its annual conference in Atlantic City.
The speech, a tradition for sitting governors, drew hundreds of local officials.
With about two months left in office, Murphy’s appearance came during a pivotal week: Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill resigned her U.S. House seat after defeating Republican Jack Ciattarelli i n a nationally watched race.
Sherrill, also a Democrat, will take office on Jan. 20.
