She is 142 centimetres tall, does not drink and is meant to be retired, but Barb Parkinson has become the face of a country pub.

Two years ago, her daughter, Alesha Smith, saw the Yandaran Hotel advertised for sale and took it as an opportunity to convince her mother to retire from nursing and move from Bundaberg to the small community.

"I said to her, 'Do you want to go on an adventure together?'" Ms Smith said. Loading...

It was pitched to Ms Parkinson as a chance to work on her crafts while occasionally serving drinks, but now she is busier than ever.

"I think that we both work a minimum of 97 hours a week," Ms Smith said.

Ms Parkinson is affectionately known as "the Granny at the Yannie", a nickname given by a regular who joked she used the alias for online dating.
