Former MLA from Delhi Jitender Singh Shunty was on Thursday appointed member of Punjab Human Rights Commission.
Shunty is the founder of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sewa Dal. He was with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) earlier and was MLA from Shahadra in Delhi . In December 2024, ahead of Delhi Assembly elections, he had joined the AAP in Arvind Kejriwal ’s presence. However, he lost to BJP’s Sanjay Goyal in 2025 Assembly elections.
His appointment as a member of PSHRC is being seen as being “accommodated” in Punjab by AAP. The AAP is already facing flak for accommodating several of its Delhi leaders in the border state, the only state that it currently rules.
