PORTLAND, Maine — Five local businesses were recognized Thursday night at the 27th annual Portland Development Corporation Business Awards.
The awards highlight companies that strengthen the city's economy and contribute to the community.
The ceremony honors businesses across a range of sectors that meet criteria such as high-quality service, strong employee support, and community partnership. Award categories include Economic Development Achievement, Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, PDC Client of the Year, and the Legacy Award.
Greg Watson, Portland's director of housing and economic development, said about 90 percent of Portland businesses are small businesses, meaning they employ fewer than 20 people. Their impact, he said, is central to the city’s identity.
