Decisions threaten students’ health, safety and dignity
I, along with many of my peers, feel abandoned by both our government and university administration. Medicaid coverage is threatened, SNAP benefits are disappearing, and professors are being forced out rather than supported. I moved to Fort Wayne to earn a Purdue degree at a fraction of the cost, but my education should not come at the expense of my health and safety.
Growing up, I faced prejudice early. In Oklahoma, neighbors banged on ceilings. At Purdue Fort Wayne, an administrator assumed I could not have a boyfriend because of my Muslim upbringing. Assumptions often hide bias, and advocacy is necessary.
