BEREA, Ohio -- If you’re an area resident who attends local events -- including parades, the Harvest Festival and National Night Out -- chances are you’ve spotted Steve Blair, a.k.a. “Berea’s Batman”.
Each December, he dons the iconic uniform to help the Maryssa’s Mission Foundation and the Berea Police Department deliver toys to hospitals, the Ronald McDonald House and other sites serving medically fragile children.
Blair’s efforts began about 13 years ago, when he started buying bicycles for Berea Community Outreach.
Realizing he could stretch his dollars further by purchasing toys instead, the project grew into a year-round mission.
Today, he keeps an inventory of more than 900 toys, buying items whenever he spots a good sale.
