Indian scientists have uncovered a fundamental "genetic switch" that enables pregnancy to begin by allowing an embryo to implant successfully into the uterus lining, according to a new study published in Cell Death Discovery.

The research, led by teams from the ICMR–National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health (NIRRCH), Mumbai; Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru; and Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, deciphers a key molecular mechanism behind the uterus becoming receptive to an embryo.

For conception to occur, the embryo must embed itself into the uterine lining in a process called implantation. One major cause of infertility and early pregnancy loss is implantation failure.

The study identifies two genes, HOXA10 and TWIST2, that regulate this cr
