It wasn’t all that long ago that Annie Mac felt she might have to give up DJing. The Dublin-raised broadcaster and former host of a much-loved, long-running Radio 1 show had spent countless happy nights behind the decks in clubs around the world, playing her signature mix of electronic, dance and house music. But, as it will come as little surprise to learn, she found the DJ lifestyle isn’t particularly compatible with that of being a mother to two small children.

“Being on the club circuit means spending your life on the road and getting home at five, six in the morning – sometimes later – and then I’d have to crack on with parenting two young kids,” she says. “I found it really hard to be the parent I wanted to be while also doing those late-night club shows.
