Midway through the first half of UNLV's 99-85 victory Thursday against visiting St. Joseph's, Al Green picked off a pass in the backcourt and fed Kimani Hamilton, who threw down an emphatic dunk.

On the ensuing inbound, the Rebels immediately went back to their full-court press. Green and Hamilton trapped the ballhandler, nearly forcing a turnover before Hamilton committed a hard foul.

It was one sequence, but it showed flashes of what this UNLV team could become.

The Rebels, now 3-2 overall, remain very much a work in progress. But when their defense is dialed in and creating havoc, the potential is clear. They forced 12 turnovers that led to 18 points — the kind of aggressive, disruptive style they can build their identity around.

The problem is consistency — hence giving up 85 point
